Naming the Swing Leg Before You Draw the Setup
Most discarded trades fail earlier than the entry candle. They fail when the trader never named the leg they were trading.
In our Causeway Bay classroom we ask every new student to label the prior swing high and swing low before marking an entry zone. The exercise feels slow. It is deliberate.
A swing setup is a claim about unfinished business in a prior leg. If you cannot point to the leg, the rectangle you draw on the chart is decoration. Continuation setups borrow the direction of an intact leg. Reversal setups argue that a leg has exhausted. Range-break setups wait for acceptance beyond a well-tested shelf.
Spend five minutes naming legs on the daily chart before you open a lower timeframe. Students who adopt the habit report fewer impulse entries during the Hong Kong afternoon session, when liquidity can tempt a hurried mark-up.
Bring two printed charts to your next review. Mark only the legs first. Leave the entry boxes blank until the legs are named aloud.
